Chris Neilson

Chris Neilson lives on the Sunshine Coast, in Queensland, Australia and have been painting for over 10 years. He is currently working with acrylics on stretch canvases and the subjects tend to have an underlying water theme and are infused with feelings of summer holidays and idyllic tropical paradises.”

Born in 1965 in Melbourne, Chris attended Camberwell Grammar 1978-83 and went on to Melbourne University to complete a Bachelor of Commerce in 1986. Chris then spent five years in the advertising industry where he worked for several advertising agencies including Clemenger Harvie.

In 1992 he left Australia and travelled extensively for the next two years. His journey took him to over twenty countries, including Thailand, Mexico, Spain, Jamaica, USA and Indonesia.

Settling back into Melbourne, he picked up the brushes and painted his first canvas in 1996. The beach, holidays, summer and the sea became his inspiration and his subjects have included waves, beaches, lagoons, reefs and exotic islands. His work has been shown in Melbourne, bayside and Mornington Peninsula galleries.

Some of his work can be seen at Jive Design in Hastings St, Noosa, at The Tree Frog Gallery in Montville, and at the Solace shops, Noosaville and Mooloolaba.

Chris’s work is hyper realistic with many people mistaking his works as photos.

Chris says with every painting, his desired goal is to achieve a realism that celebrates the natural beauty of our world, the amazing colours, textures and patterns created by light and the form of our natural world. To paint these images is like a holiday and hopefully viewers can feel the emotions of reconnecting to the environment.”

Chris has had work hanging in several galleries in Melbourne and on the nearby Mornington Peninsula. In 2008 Chris moved to the Sunshine Coast, Queensland and now lives near Noosa. A move that has invigorated his sense of the tropical beach paradise fantasy.

“Sublime weather, pristine national parks and and several cracking right hand point breaks! What a great place to live and draw artistic inspiration from. ”

Chris’ s work has sold steadily since he began painting in the late 90’s. Buyers have been from many countries, mainly Australia, but including New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Greece and the USA.

Chris happily does commissions and always  looks forward to discussing the clients artistic requirements wether its for a private home or a corporate building.
