Simon Meola resides in far Northern NSW. He works full time as an artist and musician. Music has always been his first love but since 2005, painting has played a huge role in his life as a fierce passion and fast becoming a primary focus. Bold, striking oil colours are preferred as a medium but quite often ink drawings and Photoshop are employed, particularly with tattoo and logo designs. Recently he has completed building and painting his first guitar, the ‘psychedelic stratocaster’. Hand built and painted guitars will no doubt become a common theme for future work.
The aim of these pieces is to dissolve the boundaries of the mind and to allow the realms of chaos, beauty, child-like curiosity, absurdity and high strangeness to stimulate the parts of ourselves we often ignore. Art can be viewed as an expression of our inner world, with the aim of retrieving what we see and experience internally. The task then is to share it with the outer world. This can be a very difficult exercise at times, but very rewarding.
As Terence McKenna once said- “Our world is in crisis because of the absence of consciousness. And so to whatever degree any one of us, can bring back a small piece of the picture and contribute it to the building to the new paradigm, then we participate in the redemption of the human spirit, and that after all it what it’s really all about…..”
